Big development in Rafaël Harvey-Pinard's future contract

BY MARCO    JUNE 15, 2023  (11:37)
Rafaël Harvey-Pinard will be an independent player with compensation on July 1. He must come to an agreement with Kent Hughes, but there's no hurry, since he's eligible for salary arbitration.

One thing is certain: RHP belongs to the NHL and, barring a major turnaround, he will no longer play in the AHL.

There are now two options for his next contract. A bridge contract or a long-term deal. There are pros and cons to both.

With a long-term contract, the salary would be fairly modest, admittedly, but it does offer him a job guarantee. According to Arpon Basu, the young man is confident enough to sign for the short term and earn a better salary later on.

"It seemed possible that the Canadiens could sign him on the cheap, long-term with a small salary, but that's no longer the case.

Harvey-Pinard, who is eligible for salary arbitration, will ultimately sign a shorter-term contract, in all likelihood." - Arpon Basu

Rafaël would therefore be opting for a bridge contract, and would be banking on his hockey skills to boost his value over the next few years. It's all to his credit!
