A top target for a deadline trade declines to play for any Canadian team

The NHL market has previously been noted as having a severe lack of players eager to play for Canadian teams.

It is far more appealing to play for an American team due to the harsh winter conditions and the fact that 90% of their revenue would be subject to the highest tax bracket in Canada.

This might be one of the key causes, and it doesn't seem like it will change anytime soon, of why it has been almost 30 years since a Canadian club has won the Stanley Cup.

Jake McCabe, a defenseman for the Chicago Blackhawks, made a trade request this month after growing weary of the city's winning mentality. However, a recent surprise revealed that a deal for McCabe would be trickier than first thought.

Elliotte Friedman says he's not convinced D Jake McCabe wants to be in Canada at all, and his 7 team no trade clause may be every Canadian team.

The Oilers have interest, but it's unlikely it happens. Friedman isn't convinced he has any interest in waiving his NTC to go to Edmonton.

In order to meet their defensive need, Edmonton will have to go elsewhere, perhaps to Joel Edmundson or Vladislav Gavrikov. It also implies that Chicago might receive a lower payout.
