As much as the story of Paul Byron and his arrival in Montreal is beautiful, the end is sad. The little forward was drafted and really made his niche in Montreal, but injuries took their toll and he will probably never play professional hockey again.

His contract is up at the end of this campaign and having not played all year, it would be very surprising if he heals enough to sign a new NHL deal. However, we may well see Byron in another role with the organization.
That's what the popular Twitter profile Habs Link has been talking about. Indeed, Paul has been seen more than once at the Bell Centre with the club's executives, instead of being with the team's other numerous injured players.
Even renowned Montreal Gazette reporter Stu Cowan responded to the post.
"It would be smart for the Habs to keep Byron in the organization. One of the classiest men you'll ever see. He's smart, he's bilingual, he loves living in Montreal year-round and he's respected by everyone."

It's true that Byron wasn't an assistant captain for nothing. A true teammate appreciated by his peers and a man for whom work ethic was never a given. It would be great news if Kent Hughes, Jeff Gorton and Geoff Molson offered him a scouting or player development position, for example.
