We didn't see that one coming!

The excellent journalist from TVA Sports, Anthony Martineau, revealed a bombshell during his segment on the Canadiens' prospects today, on Jean-Charles Lajoie's show.
He revealed that young forward Owen Beck's junior team, the Peterborough Petes, is highly damaging right now. Here is what he had to say on this subject:
"On the Petes side, there were several acquisitions on the offensive side [before the deadline]. I have a good source on the Ontario junior hockey side who told me that the atmosphere internally is the worst in the Ontario junior league. The fight reportedly broke out in the dressing room." - Anthony Martineau

Martineau even added that a player recently acquired by trade by the organization would be a real bad apple in the Petes' locker room.
There's one player that I won't name who is even called a cancer by the source. The players are poking each other, it's really not fun. A quiet athlete like Beck who doesn't like confrontation could, one would guess, feel uncomfortable." - Anthony Martineau

One can suspect that this is clearly not an atmosphere conducive to performing well, and we can see that quite easily with the on-ice performance of the 33rd overall pick in the last draft.
Prior to his arrival in Peterborough, Beck had 41 points, including 17 goals in 30 games. Since being traded to the Petes, he has only four goals and 17 points in 23 games. The contrast is quite telling.
Where it gets even more disturbing is that Martineau didn't stop there on air. He also revealed that Beck isn't the only Tricolore prospect dealing with these kinds of issues.
"Unfortunately, Owen Beck's case isn't isolated because on Filip Mesar's side, the team isn't really doing any better. The same source tells me, "Look, you're not lucky in Montreal because two of your top prospects are playing in the two worst possible markets [in terms of locker room atmosphere]." We fired the coach just recently on the Kitchener side." - Anthony Martineau

It just doesn't make sense!
He adds that there have reportedly been several feuds within the team since the start of the season.
Again, in the locker room, we're talking about some feuds in terms of usage time. Some of the old-timers on the team who had time on the power play don't have it anymore. The coach that was fired was, from what I've been told, bringing no structure." - Anthony Martineau

Honestly, a noxious atmosphere can be highly problematic on a young player's development, and the fact that both of these prospects' seasons have been somewhat disappointing, especially since his trade in Beck's case, proves that something is wrong with their respective teams.
"All of these stories don't explain everything, but they may be part of the reason for the production of two prospects who, let's face it, are still loaded with talent." - Anthony Martineau

Hopefully, decisions will be made accordingly by the Habs organization, heading into next season, to that effect. If both players were to return to the OHL, let's hope that a junior deal is made for the sake of both youngsters.
