Social media X user 'NewWorldOilers' put out a surprising trade proposal that has the Edmonton Oilers acquire Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry at 50% salary retained.

There are not many legitimate goaltending assets available out in the open market at this time, and if Edmonton wants to improve that area of their team before training camp begins, GM Stan Bowman will need to be spurred into action.
That's one reason why Penguins' Tristan Jarry's name continues to pop up in rumor circles this offseason.
It's no secret that Tristan Jarry's name has been making headlines lately, especially since Pittsburgh is looking to rebuild, and the Oilers have been linked because he has had experience playing in the city of Edmonton during his junior days.
The 30-year-old Jarry has his contract until 2027-28, but had an abysmal 2024-25 season after he was placed on waivers and was reassigned to the AHL. He ended the season with a .893 SV% and over 3.00 in GAA. He's, therefore, a buy-low option.
There has been a reported trade online by social media X user "NewWorldOilers' that Edmonton might get Jarry for Mattias Janmark and David Tomasek.

At 50% Salary Retained, Acquiring Jarry Could Make Sense for the Oilers

Pittsburgh would also be retaining 50% of Jarry's salary. On a lower cap hit under the $3 million mark, it's a risk that's worthwhile.
"Tristan Jarry acquired at 50% ($2,687,500) from Pittsburgh for Janmark and Tomasek."

Although last season was very hard, Jarry has a .909 career save percentage and over 150 NHL wins. Additionally, he had nine quality starts out of his last 14 games of the season, which bodes well for next year.
His numbers would likely improve with a better set of defenders on the Oilers, unlike what he had to deal with in Pittsburgh. If the Penguins are going to trade him, Edmonton would find it worth the risk to roll the dice on him.
