Former Flames defenseman Dennis Gilbert has just been traded by the Flyers to the Senators in exchange for defenseman Max Guenette.

The Philadelphia Flyers today announced that the team has acquired restricted free agent defenseman Maxence Guenette from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for defenseman Dennis Gilbert, a former Calgary Flame.

What the Flyers did with Max Guenette immidiately after the trade

Guenette and the Flyers have subsequently agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way contract immediately after the trade.
Guenette, age 24, was drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the seventh round (187th overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft.
The 6-foot-2, 210-pound defenseman spent the 2024-25 season with the Belleville Senators of the AHL, where he was the club's alternate captain. During that time, he collected 23 points (9g-14a) in 58 games and led the team in plus-minus (+13).
The blueliner has spent the majority of the last four seasons with Belleville, setting AHL career highs in games played with 72, assists with 35, and points with 40 in 2022-23.
He also registered 116 total points over 236 career AHL games. He led the team defensemen in points in both 2022-23 and 2023-24.

Why the Senators decided to part ways with Max Guenette

Guenette made his NHL debut with Ottawa on April 13, 2023, and has skated in just eight NHL games since.
As part of the transaction, Gilbert will be joining Ottawa. The defenseman was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the third round (91st overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft.
Gilbert has registered 58 points in 194 games over parts of six AHL seasons with Lehigh Valley, Calgary, Colorado, and Rockford, and has played 111 NHL games with Ottawa, Buffalo, Calgary, Colorado, and Chicago.
He was already with the Senators when he joined them as part of last season's trade deadline deal that involved Josh Norris going to Buffalo.
