This afternoon, <a href='https://www.nhl.com/oilers/' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>the Edmonton Oilers</a> have completed a trade with the Nashville Predators during the 2025 NHL Draft. Earlier in the draft, the Edmonton Oilers were on the wrong side of a completed trade as they lost out on acquiring goaltender John Gibson. Now, just a little while later the Oilers have made a trade of their own being aggressive to go get their guy at the 2025 NHL Draft. According to multiple reports the Edmonton Oilers completed a trade with <a href='https://www.nhl.com/predators/' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>the Nashville Predators</a> to move up in the 5th round to land their guy. In return, the Oilers have sent their 5th-round pick next season to the Nashville Predators. <div align='center' class='pl20 pr20'><blockquote class='twitter-tweet' data-lang='en'><a href='https://twitter.com/puckshothockey/status/1939039489571111125'><div style='border:1px solid #CCCCCC;border-radius:10px;padding:20px;width:300px;'>Loading from Twitter ...</div></a></blockquote></div> With the selection the Edmonton Oilers landed <a href='https://www.markerzone.com/hockey/stats/nhl/player/Asher-Barnett-68748' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>Asher Barnett</a> from the USA National Team Development Program. Barnett adds depth to the Edmonton Oilers defensive group after playing 58 games and tallying 22 points in a second pair role for the USA Development Program. He also had the honored distinction of being the captain for this season's USNTDP team and that leadership is likely a quality the Edmonton Oilers will love. <div align='center' class='pl20 pr20'><blockquote class='twitter-tweet' data-lang='en'><a href='https://twitter.com/edmontonoilers/status/1939040888589819977'><div style='border:1px solid #CCCCCC;border-radius:10px;padding:20px;width:300px;'>Loading from Twitter ...</div></a></blockquote></div> The future development path of Barnett will be interesting as he is slated to play next season in juniors before heading to Michigan in 2026-27. This pick by the Oilers rounds out their 2025 NHL Draft class a bit after they selected a pair of forwards earlier in the draft. <div align='center' class='pl20 pr20'><blockquote class='twitter-tweet' data-lang='en'><a href='https://twitter.com/edmontonoilers/status/1939023247779209669'><div style='border:1px solid #CCCCCC;border-radius:10px;padding:20px;width:300px;'>Loading from Twitter ...</div></a></blockquote></div> <div align='center' class='pl20 pr20'><blockquote class='twitter-tweet' data-lang='en'><a href='https://twitter.com/edmontonoilers/status/1939035894025269530'><div style='border:1px solid #CCCCCC;border-radius:10px;padding:20px;width:300px;'>Loading from Twitter ...</div></a></blockquote></div> With a couple more rounds left in the NHL Draft it will be fun to see if the Oilers can add more talent to their prospect pool. After the NHL Draft comes to a close, the Edmonton Oilers will turn their focus to free agency.
