NHL analyst John Matisz has listed the Edmonton Oilers among the five teams that make the most sense to land Penguins' Sidney Crosby if he were to be traded.

Sidney Crosby's future has been the target of wild speculation this month, initially when agent Pat Brisson floated the idea that a trade late in his career is "always a possibility." Crosby acted quickly to restate that Pittsburgh is "where I want to be."
Nevertheless, there are concerns. The 38-year-old captain, signed through to the 2026-27 season and with a no-movement clause, has become hockey's all-time greatest leader.
What if, though, the rebuilding Penguins melt down out of contention by mid-season? Crosby is intensely competitive and isn't particularly tolerant of losing. Certainly, it was believed he'd retire a one-team player, but things tend to change at any moment.
History demonstrates that several all-time greats have changed things around late in their careers in search of new challenges or championships. Crosby's choice would necessarily be motivated by desiring a fourth Stanley Cup.
Some destinations are deserving of note, per NHL analyst John Matisz. The Edmonton Oilers would be enticing, as the possibility of playing with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl could be too hard to pass up.

Sidney Crosby Would Be the Missing Piece for the Oilers to Capture the Stanley Cup

The Oilers have also reached the Finals two years in a row, and adding Crosby could be what they need to finally get them over the hump and actually hoist the trophy.
The Colorado Avalanche have a Stanley Cup roster, and the possibility of playing with fellow Cole Harbour native Nathan MacKinnon could be very tempting for Crosby.
The Montreal Canadiens provide the hometown sentimental aspect of being Crosby's youth team.
The Florida Panthers are a team on the cusp of a dynasty, and should they add Crosby, it would almost be a lock for them to capture their third consecutive Stanley Cup.
And, as usual, the Vegas Golden Knights are always hanging around Stanley Cup conversations, fueled by their history of luring star players.
Whatever the outcome, Crosby's choice will be given much consideration. Whether he rides off into the sunset in Pittsburgh or attempts to chase one more Cup elsewhere, his choice will be an added chapter to a legendary career.
