Controversial NHL veteran defenseman Tony DeAngelo has reportedly agreed to a contract with a team in the KHL, likely leaving North American hockey for good. The Hockey News journalist and CHL insider James Courville broke this news earlier today. He revealed that DeAngelo appears set to sign a contract with Ska. St. Petersburgh of the KHL. Furthermore, he added details, noting that it appears to be a one-year deal worth just under one million dollars in USD. Under the current exchange rate, that would be just over 92 million Russian Rubles.

Oddly enough, NHL insider Frank Seravalli recently tweeted about DeAngelo's lack of NHL contract, calling it 'baffling' that the 28-year-old wasn't able to land a deal before training camps kicked off. He also added that he is 'well-liked' by his teammates, but consistent reports seem to indicate otherwise. DeAngelo has played in 371 career NHL games, split among four teams but he has never been able to stay with one team for an extended period of time, other than his stint with the New York Rangers, but even then he only got into 167 games across four seasons, missing nearly every other game on average. Furthermore, his time in the big apple ended with him being put on waivers. Not a good look for a quality NHL player. Several fans pointed out how ridiculous Seravalli's comment about DeAngelo was in the replies. Some joked that the defenseman forced Seravalli to make that statement while others simply pointed out how bad he is on defense, which likely deterred NHL teams from signing him.

Regardless, this likely signals the end of DeAngelo's NHL career. Perhaps if was more well-liked, or involved in fewer controversies, he would have a job in the league still. Unfortunately, that is just the way he chose to play out his career and now he's reaping what he sowed.
