Stuart Skinner is back in Edmonton, and the Oilers breakup still stings.

He's an Edmonton kid, and that used to be the whole story. Near the end, it got heavier, louder, and personal.
The numbers didn't help the vibe. Skinner left town at 11-8-4 with a 2.83 GAA and .891 SV%, and every soft one felt like a headline.
Then came the shake-up. Edmonton moved Skinner and Brett Kulak, plus a 2029 second-rounder, for Tristan Jarry and Samuel Poulin.
Stan Bowman's quote said the quiet part out loud, time for something different. That's tough to hear when you're the hometown goalie.
In the post above, Skinner talks about returning to Edmonton and how his relationship with the city got complicated. You can see the careful wording, like he's trying not to poke an old bruise.
That's the trap with playing at home. When it's good, you're a hero, when it's bad, you're the target.

Stuart Skinner and Edmonton Oilers tension

Oilers fans know this feeling, the love flips fast when the crease turns into a weekly debate.
Skinner was drafted by Edmonton in 2017, third round, 78th overall. He grew up dreaming of this exact rink.
He also carried the weight of it, night after night. The market can be a blast, it can also eat you alive.
Now he's walking back in wearing different colors, with the old noise waiting for him. That's not closure, that's a sequel.
If Skinner looks sharp between the pipes, it'll feel like a "what if." If he wobbles, the story writes itself again.
Penguins coach Dan Muse hasn't officially confirmed a starter yet but Skinner did play yesterday so he may not today.
Either way, Thursday in Edmonton is going to sound different for him, and for the building.
