The Columbus Blue Jackets are now without their GM after firing him a few days ago, and new reports may indicate that they are looking to the Eastern Conference for his potential replacement.
Darren Dreger Reveals Blue Jackets May Look To Montreal For Next GM
The Blue Jackets are in a tricky position right now, as they fired their GM in the heat of the season right before the trade deadline. Now, NHL insider Darren Dreger has revealed that they could be looking to get permission to talk to the Montreal Canadiens Vice President of Hockey Operations Jeff Gorton to be their next GM.
"As speculation builds Not sure how the Canadiens would feel about this, but why wouldn't CBJ call Montreal and ask permission to speak with Jeff Gorton? History with Davidson and a GM at heart. Geoff Molson might hang up, but is there harm in asking?"
Blue Jackets and Gorton Have Previous Connection that Could Lead Him to Be Their Next GM
This isn't totally out of the blue, as Jeff Gorton was previously the General Manager of the New York Rangers, and used to work with President Of Hockey Ops and Alternate Governor John Davidson of the Blue Jackets. This connection could be all it takes to bring Gorton over from the Canadiens.
However, this will be a tricky job to take. Clearly, all the pressure is on anyone who remains in the Blue Jackets organization, as they have had a terrible year this year from the get-go, both organizationally and on the ice.
We will have to see how this plays out.
