The hockey world paused to remember 17-year-old Liam Turner of Caledonia, Ontario, who died on Saturday, June 6, following a car accident.

Turner was a defenseman who split his 2025-26 season between the Niagara Predators and the St. George Ravens of the GMHL, touching multiple programs and communities at once.
He also represented Blyth Academy, and when news of his passing spread across social media, a Hockey Forever tribute post drew more than 31,000 reactions from a stunned hockey world.
A GoFundMe has been organized to help support the Turner family as they face an unimaginable loss.
Those wishing to contribute can find the link through the Hockey Forever Instagram page.

The nickname that says everything

The most revealing detail about who Liam Turner was had nothing to do with hockey.
Around Caledonia, he was known affectionately as the "Deputy Mayor of Caledonia" - not for any official role, but because of the warm, magnetic way he connected with absolutely everyone he crossed paths with.
His family described him as a bright light, a fierce competitor, and a loyal friend who lived with an undeniable spark.
Those aren't hockey words - they're the words communities save for people who genuinely shaped the lives around them, not just players who wore their jersey.

A community that will carry him forward

The tributes that spread across the Ontario junior hockey world painted a consistent portrait.
Turner was the kind of teammate who made every locker room feel different when he walked in - described by those who knew him as someone whose energy could not be replaced.
He was 17 years old with a hometown nickname his whole community gave him freely and a reputation that reached far beyond any rink he played in.
Liam Turner leaves behind his loving parents, Lisa and Chris, and his sisters, Addy and Jasmine.
