Todd McLellan, the former head coach of the San Jose Sharks, Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings has been linked to the Ottawa Senators.

Amidst a season that falls below expectations, with the Senators once again missing out on playoffs, Steve Staios, the team's president of hockey operations and general manager of the organization, has openly discussed the search process for a new coach.

Todd McLellan in the Running for Ottawa Senators Head Coaching Position

Bruce Garrioch of the Toronto Sun suggested in a new paper that Todd McLellan is on the Ottawa Senators' radar for their head coaching opening. McLellan, who was let go by the Los Angeles Kings earlier in the season with a 23-15-10 record, tallies 598 wins over 1,144 NHL games.
Garrioch highlighted Staios' admiration for McLellan's coaching resume, despite McLellan's teams missing the playoffs six out of the last nine years.

President of hockey operations and general manager Steve Staios shares details on the Ottawa Senators' head coach search

In discussions about the Senators' search for a new head coach, General Manager Steve Staios emphasized the team's deliberate approach:
"The process has started. We have a list of people. We want to be patient with our approach because things do change into the off-season."

"We want to make sure that we have all the information that's afforded to us to make the decision on bringing in the best coach for this group at this point in time."

"There's a lot of work that's going to go on behind behind the scenes and trying to identify exactly, not only who the head coach is but also to build out the coaching staff in the right way."

"Jacques [Martin], Alfie [Daniel Alfredsson] and the rest of the group have done a good job laying the foundation for our young group moving forward. You can see the details and habits are getting there. I feel confident that it's going to pay off."

Jacques Martin is expected to keep his job of interim head coach until the end of the season, but we can expect management to make an official decision early in the off-season.
