This afternoon, a new report has suggested that the Florida Panthers are considering trading goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky at the trade deadline.
The Florida Panthers currently find themselves 8 points out of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with a tough hill to climb down the stretch.
With their playoff odds falling quite low, insiders have now begun to speculate that the Panthers could become sellers at the trade deadline.
A new report from NHL insider Jeff Marek has suggested that goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky could be available as a deadline day addition for a contender.
Insider believes the Panthers will consider trading Sergei Bobrovsky
In a new segment of the DFO Rundown show, Marek and his co-host Jason Gregor discussed possible trade deadline candidates.
Marek brought up Bobrovsky as an ideal candidate linking him to the San Jose sharks who are in need of a veteran presence in net.
Guys talk if Florida shuts guys down for the rest of the season to get healthy for next season. Marek wonders what happens with Sergei Bobrovsky since there has been no talk about an extension and if he'd fit in San Jose.
On the other hand, Jason Gregor thinks that veteran forwards Evan Rodrigues and AJ Greer could be the players Florida is more likely to move on from.
Gregor wonders more about guys like Evan Rodrigues and AJ Greer, says Florida has too many bodies.
As of now, the Panthers have not tipped their hand regarding their trade deadline plans but this year clearly seems to be a year where they will build towards future seasons.
With Captain Aleksander Barkov still out due to injury, and the team falling so far out of the playoffs, trading away as many veteran pieces as possible seems to be the right move.
As the deadline approaches it will be interesting to follow the Panthers and GM Bill Zito to see what his master plan is.
