With the NHL trade deadline just five days away, teams are preparing themselves for big moves and today five players were unexpectedly placed on waivers.

The NHL trade deadline is expected to bring chaos to the stretch run of the season with several teams going all-in while others build for the future.
Two teams on the opposite ends of that spectrum are the Vancouver Canucks and the Edmonton Oilers.
The Canucks are looking to rebuild and build for the future while the Oilers expect to go all-in for the Stanley Cup.
With these goals in mind, the Canucks and Oilers have placed a combined three players on waivers to clear roster and salary cap space for their trade deadline moves.

Five players unexpectedly placed on waivers ahead of the trade deadline

According to multiple reports, today has become one of the biggest waiver days of the season with five players being subjected to a waiver move.
The Oilers have placed Andrew Mangiapane and Alec Regula on waivers while the Canucks plan to move on from Guillaume Brisebois.
Waivers today:
Mangiapane & Regula (EDM)
Brisebois (VAN)
Fabbri (STL)
Kunin (FLA)
In the case of the Oilers, they have been trying to find a new home for Mangiapane for over a month now with no luck.
Now they will be hoping he is claimed for nothing clearing the salary cap space.
Regula on the other hand could be potentially claimed according to some sources but also could end up joining Mangiapane in the AHL.
As for Brisebois in Vancouver, he has yet to play this season and has struggled to stay healthy in recent seasons meaning he shouldn't be claimed, but, it will be good to see him return to action in Abbotsford soon with this move.
Now, over the next 24 hours these three players along with Robby Fabbri and Luke Kunin will be opened up to be potentially claimed by any team in the NHL.
If each player goes unclaimed, then they will report to the AHL club of their respective franchises for the rest of the 2025-26 season.
As more information is provided on the fates of these players we will pass the latest news along to you.
