The NHL Department of Player Safety handed out a punishment to Michael McCarron of the Nashville Predators for his hit on Canucks' goaltender Casey DeSmith. Last Friday night, in game three between the Predators and the Canucks, McCarron landed a solid hit on Casey DeSmith behind Vancouver's goal. Watch a video of the incident here:

Loading from Twitter ...

Fortunately for the Canucks, DeSmith was able to stay in the game. The team is already dealing with an injury to their number one goalie, Thatcher Demko. As they rely on DeSmith to fill in until Demko gets cleared to make a comeback, another goalie injury would've been devastating. As for McCarron, it was announced that he would need to pay a $2,000 fine for goalie interference. The DoPS announced their verdict in the following post: Nashville's Michael McCarron has been fined $2,000 for goalie interference on Vancouver's Casey DeSmith.

Loading from Twitter ...

Despite the hit, DeSmith had a great game, allowing only one goal on 30 shots, giving his team a 2-1 lead in the series. The next game between the Predators and the Canucks is set to go down on Sunday. Nashville will try to bounce back and tie the series, while Vancouver will look to get their third win and put themselves in a position to eliminate the Predators in game 5.
