New reports suggest the Toronto Maple Leafs have set their sights on Patrick Kane, possibly a top contender for their first line.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have emerged as strong contenders in the pursuit of free agent Patrick Kane, with reports indicating a high level of interest in the talented forward.
Prominent hockey figure Dave Poulin, speaking on Toronto's TSN 1050 radio station, emphasized that if Kane's hip condition is resolved as expected, the Maple Leafs should be at the forefront of potential suitors.
Securing Kane would be a game-changer for the Leafs. A dominant right-wing, offers flexibility. It's conceivable the Leafs could position him on the left wing, complementing Auston Matthews and ex-London Knight teammate Mitch Marner.
Can Treliving Make it Happen?
The key challenge in enticing Kane to Toronto isn't persuasion but rather financial. While a hypothetical trade involving TJ Brodie and a modest $2 million contract for Kane is conceivable, it's hardly enticing. Ultimately, it's a numbers game, but KAne knows he won't get a lot more by signing somewhere else.
Trading away William Nylander might be the solution. Such a move would not only free up a right-wing spot beside John Tavares but also make available an additional $2 million compared to Brodie's departure.
