Top Junior League Announces new mandate for player safety
In the wake of the tragic events that took place in England, we have seen leagues around the world taking great steps in player safety, and now another league has followed suit.
Another mandate
After several NHL teams introduced a neck gear mandate for their ECHL and AHL teams, the WHL, one of North America's top junior leagues have officially followed suit.
The WHL, based in Western Canada hosts teams from BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and the West Coast of the US, and have featured some top tier talents over the years, including Connor Bedard.
According to their social media release, the WHL will introduce a neck guard mandate that comes into effect on Friday, November 3, requiring all players to wear protective neck equipment whenever they're on the ice for practice or games, a great step forward.
