Just two years ago, when the Canadiens reached the Stanley Cup Final, we knew that the following year would be a difficult one, with several players leaving, either through autonomy or injury.

What's more, the club's bank of prospects was very ordinary, except for Cole Caufield and Kaiden Guhle. In short, no one was surprised to see a rebuild on a team that was going nowhere and finished last in the NHL the following year.
Today, the team has made a 180-degree turn, and the CH can count on one of the most promising banks of prospects in the entire league. Guhle and Caufield are no longer counted as prospects.
NHL expert Sean Farrell (not the CH player) has released his rankings of the team's top prospects, and it's with great surprise that he puts Juraj Slafkovsky in first place, ahead of David Reinbacher, Lane Hutson, Owen Beck and Joshua Roy.
What's also surprising is that he says he doesn't see Reinbacher and Hutson in the NHL for another two years. Yet we know that it's almost certain that the Austrian will play in Switzerland this year and Hutson in the NCAA.
According to many, Hutson will sign his entry-level contract at the end of his NCAA season, much like Caufield did. As for Reinbacher, if he doesn't cause a surprise this year, he could well be part of the plans for next year.
As for Beck and Roy, according to Farrell, they'll be ready to make the jump this year with the Habs. However, with the congestion among the forwards and for the sake of their development, they should start the season in the AHL, possibly even playing there all year long.
