For quite some time fans of the league have wanted the NHL to make a change to the way the playoff format in order to better boost teams that do well in the regular season and Sidney Crosby is no different.

Crosby Suggest Major Rule Change to Playoff format

Sidney Crosby was asked in a recent interview what one change to the NHL rules he would make and it revolved around the playoff format.

Sidney Crosby says he'd change the league to go with a 1-8 playoff format. Says it rewards teams for the regular season better

The NHL has been facing backlash for the current format of the playoffs as the current format often sees the 2nd best team in a conference face off with the 3rd best team in either round one or two.

A Much Needed Change In The NHL

If you take a look at the Atlantic division in recent years, the Toronto Maple Leafs, Tampa Bay Lightning and Boston Bruins would all face off with each other in the first or second round despite being typically in the top four teams in the Eastern conference.

While teams in the Metropolitan division get teams that are lower in the standings until they get to round three where they face the top team in the Atlantic division.

This change has been one fans are hoping for as it may spark the NHL to have more rivalries and better playoff matchups overall. It may even see teams go all out for the wins at a lot higher of rate.
