Pierre-Luc Dubois file: major rebound for Kent Hughes and the Canadiens
As of 24 hours ago, we can confirm that an "unofficial" agreement has been reached between the Winnipeg Jets and the Los Angeles Kings for Quebecer Pierre-Luc Dubois.
Dubois is expected to make the deal official by signing a long-term contract extension with the Kings, but it's still not happening, and that's cause for concern.
According to reports, Dubois really wants to go to Los Angeles, but you can't sell the bear's skin too quickly.
Dreger says Winnipeg isn't looking to rebuild and isn't very interested in the roster players Montreal is willing to move. "Josh Anderson's name was floated out there, don't see Josh Anderson as the fit the Winnipeg Jets want."- HabsLinks (@HabsLinks) June 26, 2023
According to Arpon Basu, Kent Hughes and the Canadian are still in the mix, and that could well be why it's taking so long.
Further to Pierre's reporting here that Dubois is leaning to the Kings, I'm told the Canadiens are still open to finding a way to make this work should those talks go off the rails. A source close to Dubois said it's too soon to rule them out, as unlikely as it seems right now. https://t.co/ucQ8bUL8Po- Arpon Basu (@ArponBasu) June 26, 2023
Kent Hughes certainly doesn't have as much as the Kings to give for this deal. After all, we hear they're offering Quinton Byfield, Gabe Vilardi and Alex Iafallo, which is a pretty huge return. However, Dubois has the final say, as he absolutely must agree to sign long-term with the Kings for the trade to materialize.
