Since the Quebec Remparts' controversial elimination from the playoffs last season, Patrick Roy's future at the helm of the team has been nebulous. The famous number 33 was slow to confirm his return for the 2022-23 campaign and that may have been one mistake too many. Indeed, early on in training camp, Roy was sent off for one game, as well as being suspended for another. The coach continues to question his future and now seems to have made his decision. Speaking on Le Retour des Sportifs, Roy was very transparent about the Remparts' plans, which are directly related to his own. Indeed, the plan is for Simon Gagné to take over the team next year. Patrick mentioned that this is a last lap for him and that the passion may not be there anymore.

We still don't know if the ultimate goal is to return to the NHL, but one thing is for sure, Roy has accomplished great things in the QMJHL and he can retire with his head held high.
