Ahead of tonight's game, the Edmonton Oilers had to use this emergency rule in order to call up players and field a competitive roster.

Oilers Call Up Hamblin Using Emergency Rule

In breaking news today, the Oilers were forced to use the Roster Emergency Exception (REE) rule to call up James Hamblin from the minors in order to be able to field a team for tonight's game. They were forced to do this because they have no cap space, and were granted the exception because they played with 17 skaters on Saturday night.
#LetsGoOilers have recalled James Hamblin using the Roster Emergency Exception (REE).

The team played with only 17 skaters on Saturday against NSH because they didn't have the c/space to recall someone from the minors.

As a result, they can now recall a player a $0 against the cap.

Oilers In Need of a Win Tonight

To say the Oilers have been in crisis mode to start the year would be an understatement. Many touted the team as a Stanley Cup contender after their playoff run last season, and now they have started the year with a disappointing 2-7-1 record.
What's the fanbase thinking right now on this Oiler stuff??? Way to early to start thinking coaching change. Only way I'd start considering that is if they lose Monday to the Canucks for the 3rd time this season and then somehow lose to the San Jose Sharks Thursday. Not happening.

Having to go into scramble mode to field a full roster of 18 guys is also a terrible look for the struggling Oilers. Hopefully, they will be able to come out of the slump tonight.
