New developments in the Coyotes' future arena plans
At the end of the last NHL season, officials at Gila River Arena, the former home of the Arizona Coyotes, would not re-sign a lease with the team. The team turned to Mullett Arena, a 5,000-seat university amphitheatre.
Last night, Coyotes officials received some good news. The Tempe City Council voted unanimously to hold a referendum for an arena.
"We want to thank the Tempe City Council for this unanimous vote." - Xavier A. Gutierrez, president of the Coyotes
It remains to be seen what the results of the upcoming referendum in May will be.
