Nathan MacKinnon mentioned a few days ago that he wanted to sign a lucrative long-term contract in Colorado and be an Avalanche for life.

If there was no deal, the centre also mentioned that he would not have negotiated during the season to avoid distraction.
The Avalanche general manager took him at his word as Nathan just signed an eight-year contract extension worth $12.6 million per season.
MacKinnon becomes the highest paid player in the NHL, surpassing Connor McDavid by $100,000.
