NHL Insider Reveals Which Leafs Prospect The Flames Could Target in a Trade

With both Nikita Zadorov and Chris Tanev seemingly on the way out of Calgary, the Toronto Maple Leafs have become a prime destination for one or both men to end up, and now, the Flames may have their ideal target in mind.

The Flames could target a former teammate of their top prospect

While the Flames prospect cupboard may not be deep, they've got some names that are ready to make an impact at the NHL level, and one of those is Matt Coronato, a former Harvard standout.

Now, Sportsnet's Eric Francis has pointed out that Toronto's Nick Abruzzese was a linemate of Coronato's in college, and thus this would be the perfect player for Calgary to target in any trade talk.

As the hockey world tries to piece together various pieces that could make a Leafs trade for a Flames defenceman possible, consider the fact Toronto farmhand Nick Abruzzese was Matt Coronato's setup man at Harvard two seasons ago.

The Leafs 4th rounder was just named AHL player of the week w 2g and 5a in 3 games.

Nick Abruzzese has excelled for the Marlies in 2023-24

In 12 games this season for the Toronto Marlies, Abruzzese has 3 goals and 11 points, and now, the former fourth-round pick could be a major piece in a trade that lands Toronto some serious defensive help.

The names that many are looking at in this deal are Nick Robertson, Fraser Minten and Easton Cowan, but if Calgary are giving up two key pieces, they may look for several names, and if that's the case, expect them to ask for the 24-year old center who could become a key piece of their lineup almost immediately.
