Connor McDavid, who is known for usually staying quiet about off-ice matters, appears to be unhappy with a recent decision made by NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman.

McDavid is usually reserved and gives similar answers to various topics.

However, this time, his response was different when asked about Bettman's decision to eliminate all specialty jerseys in the league.

McDavid's Comments

Here's what he said:

"I'm certainly not the voice for every team out there. As far as Edmonton is concerned, we were pioneers in adopting the Pride Tape. In our locker room, we believe hockey is meant for everyone, and that includes celebrating Pride nights and such. It's a downer, for sure. Nonetheless, the call is well above my pay grade. It's not my place to decide. But, it's disheartening, no doubt."

"Every individual has their perspectives. I can't comment on those. I can only speak for myself and my team in Edmonton, and I can tell you we're fully behind such initiatives."

McDavid's reaction is unusual, but this decision affects more than just pride jerseys. Bettman's sweeping decision also affects special jersey nights dedicated to military appreciation and cancer awareness, which are important fundraising events.

The Commissioner's approach of solving the problem by completely eliminating it shows his ability to stir up controversy while trying to avoid it. It doesn't reflect well on Bettman, especially when his decision is being criticized by the league's top players.
