The Toronto Maple Leafs, thirsty for change, are aggressively scouting one of the NHL's finest defensemen to give their defensive lineup the needed boost, and give the organization and city the serious cup run they've been waiting so long for.

Toronto Targeting Rival's Former Captain

In an ongoing tug of war with the San Jose Sharks, the Leafs are determined to secure Erik Karlsson, the current holder of the prestigious Norris Trophy.
Though the potential trade is still shrouded in complexities, insiders hint at a preliminary roadmap to make it happen.

What Would Toronto Have to Give Up?

To woo Karlsson to their ranks, the Leafs understand that they'd need to part ways with one of their star performers.
Speculation hints that William Nylander, a standout member of their impressive youthful brigade, may just be the one to make way. Indeed, Nylander has been a hot topic in their preliminary offer to the Sharks.
Rumours of Nylander leaving Toronto have been circulating since the very beginning of the offseason/ He has been grappling with his own set of challenges with the Leafs. The two sides haven't seen eye-to-eye on the terms of his contract extension, prompting Brad Treliving and the management team to consider the trade avenue.
Of course, it's understood that the Leafs' offer for Karlsson would need to be more substantial than just Nylander. However bagging Karlsson would be an incredible boon to the Leafs' defensive squad, not to mention their odds of capturing the Stanley Cup.
