MAJOR: Penguins Reportedly Ready To Trade Two-Time 30 Goal Scorer
The Pittsburgh Penguins are desperate to go on one last playoff run with their current core. Now they may be set to make a major move to make that happen.
Penguins Place Rakell On The Trade Block
Rickard Rakell has been off to quite a slow start this year. Through 12 games he has just 3 assists. The 30-year-old is coming off a season in which he scored 28 goals and 60 points so his current rate of production is somewhat concerning.
As a result, the team is reportedly considering trading him in an effort to get someone with more net-front presence. Rakell has four years left after this one at a 5 million dollar cap hit so any trade is likely going to be a hockey trade with another team that sees Rakell as a valuable addition both now and for the future. He should still have a decent amount of value as a legit middle-six option despite his slow start.
Penguins General Manager Kyle Dubas Making Big Moves
Kyle Dubas has already shown that he is not afraid to make a major move or two in order to improve his team. One of his first moves as GM of the Penguins was to acquire Erik Karlsson from the Sharks in a massive three-team trade.

Dubas is continuously looking for ways to improve his team. Biting the bullet and moving on from Rakell could be a good move for the team if Dubas can get someone he likes more back. He's shown that he is not afraid to mortgage the future for short-term deals either as the Penguins have just one pick in the first three rounds of the draft this year.
