John Carlson has been sidelined since late December due to a severe injury sustained when a 90MPH slap shot struck him in the head.

Carlson's Comeback


The Capitals can look forward to their top defenseman returning soon, as he nears recovery from his head injuries.
While the Capitals' playoff prospects are bleak, Carlson's return will be a positive development for the team.
Whether as a trade asset or a component of the Capitals' rebuilding efforts, a healthy Carlson is of greater value.

Details of Injury Revealed


Carlson's injury was extremely serious.

Once well enough, he described the ordeal:

«It felt like being struck by lightning,»
«The pain was unbearable, and I was unsure if I would make it through.»

On December 23rd, Carlson suffered a fractured skull and severed temporal artery from the slap shot. Fast forward three months, and the Capitals' leading defenseman may be ready to return as early as next week.
