Flames make sure they didn't trade Matthew Tkachuk for nothing
The most important transaction of the summer was undoubtedly the one that sent Jonathan Huberdeau and Mackenzie Weegar to Calgary in exchange for Matthew Tkachuk. Tkachuk and Huberdeau have already signed contract extensions with their new teams, but Wergar could have become a free agent in the summer of 2023.
According to Frank Seravalli, Flames general manager Brad Treliving made sure to keep the second piece of this long-term deal, as he is finalized an eight-year, $6.25 million contract extension for the defenseman.
