Craig Button reveals the only team that can afford Erik Karlsson this trade deadline

If and when Erik Karlsson is traded, it will set an unprecedented record in the NHL. The Swede would become the highest paid player to be traded, which is even more unbelievable in a fixed cap league.

TSN's Craig Button was very clear, however. Because of his $11.5 million cap hit, there is only one team interested in acquiring him: the Buffalo Sabres.

Imagine a defense consisting of Erik Karlsson, Rasmus Dahlin, Owen Power and Mattias Samuelsson. Obviously, the Sabres will have to be a cup contender sooner than later.

They have plenty of young prospects and picks, and if they decide that EK65 is a player they want, they will.
