The Leafs received some bad news as one of their top trade targets went down with an injury last night during his game.

Tanev Leaves Game With Injury

Chris Tanev has been widely reported as one of the Leafs' top trade targets, in hopes of shoring up their injured blueline. The Leafs have been pegged as the frontrunner to land Tanev as GM Brad Treliving has an excellent relationship with the defenseman.
Last night, however, bad news struck as Tanev left the game with an injury.

This is unfortunate news for the Leafs, as they are in desperate need of another defenseman, especially with Klingberg out for the remainder of the season.

Leafs Injury Curse Travels to Potential Trade Target

The Leafs' string of bad luck for injuries is looking more and more like a curse, and it could even be transferred to players they are just looking at. Without more details, its hard to know if the injury is severe enough to deter the Leafs from going after Tanev. However, the Leafs have also been rumoured to be looking at other defensemen, like Mario Ferraro.

With that in mind, it sounds like San Jose's Mario Ferraro could be a player of interest for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

As the holiday trade freeze and subsequent trade deadline approaches, we will see what swings Brad Treliving has left to give.
