Winnipeg Jets shuffle goalies: one sent down, while another is called up
The Jets are making some changes in net, as the team has sent down Thomas Milic to the AHL's Moose, and in the process, they have recalled Dom DiVincentiis.
Thomas Milic was reassigned to the AHL's Manitoba Moose on Monday, with the Jets calling up Dominic DiVincentiis in a corresponding goalie swap. The move gives Milic a chance to get more game action in the crease for the Moose.
What the Jets could do in the near future with their two young goalies
With Connor Hellebuyck sidelined by a knee injury, the Jets could rotate their young netminders again soon. Milic heads back to Manitoba with a 2.14 GAA and a 5-2-2 record in nine appearances this season.
Hellebuyck underwent arthroscopic knee surgery on Nov. 22 to address a lingering injury dating back to training camp. He last played on Nov. 15 in a 4-3 win over the Calgary Flames and was initially expected to miss four to six weeks.
Why Connor Hellebuyck's absence hurts the the Jets
The 2012 fifth-round pick won both the Hart Trophy as NHL MVP and the Vezina Trophy as the league's top goaltender last season, helping the Jets reach the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs after claiming the Presidents' Trophy with 116 points.
Before surgery, Hellebuyck was 8-6-0 with a 2.51 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage in 14 games this season. No timeline has been set for his return, but the Jets hope he will be back between the pipes as soon as possible.
He has not been named to the American Olympic roster but is expected to return before the hockey competition begins on Feb. 11.
