Today a new report has confirmed that one of the Winnipeg Jets top prospects has officially turned down an NHL opportunity to remain overseas in Europe. The Winnipeg Jets are expecting to lose star forward Nikolaj Ehlers in free agency in just a few weeks. With Ehlers on the way out, the Jets will need a replacement to go into the middle of their lineup and help fill the production that will be left with Ehlers expected departure. One player who was in the discussions to sign and come to the Jets was 2021 5th-round pick Dmitri Rashevsky. Since being drafted Rashevsky has developed into one of the top young players in the KHL and was expected to make the leap to the NHL with the Jets this summer. However, a new report has indicated that will now not be the case as Rashevsky has signed an extension overseas.
Winnipeg Jets Prospect Turns Down NHL Opportunity For New Deal In Russia
According to a new report from Dylan Griffing, the Russian scout for Elite Prospects, Rashevsky has signed a new deal with Avangard Omsk for three seasons. The completion of the deal is reliant on his former KHL team Dynamo Moskva not matching the deal themselves.

Loading from Twitter ...

Loading from Twitter ...

Regardless, this news means the 24 year old forward will remain in Russia for three more seasons taking him until he is 27 years old. This likely ends any chance of Rashevsky playing in the NHL for the Jets in the future.

Loading from Twitter ...

While this news is frustrating it is not all that surprising as back in 2023 Rashevsky admitted that a future with the Jets was unlikely. I was in touch (with Winnipeg), but at the moment I consulted with my family, agent and coaching staff; everyone was of the same opinion that it was better to stay. Now it will be up to the Jets to determine whether they want to hold onto Rashevsky's NHL rights or trade him to another organization and try to get something in return.
