The Jets have placed defenseman Neal Pionk on injured reserve today, and in the process, they have called up blueliner Elias Salomonsson from the AHL.
Winnipeg Jets head coach Scott Arniel confirmed Wednesday that defencemen Haydn Fleury, Neal Pionk, and Colin Miller are all out week-to-week.
The player the Jets recalled from the AHL
The Jets officially recalled Elias Salomonsson from the AHL's Manitoba Moose and placed Pionk on injured reserve, reports insider Ken Wiebe. Isaak Phillips could also see increased playing time.
Pionk logged 20:21 in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the New York Islanders, recording an assist, but Arniel said he will now need time to recover after aggravating an injury.
Miller left Sunday's game against the New Jersey Devils after just 4:14 on the ice and was placed on injured reserve Monday with a lower-body issue. Fleury has been sidelined since Jan. 6 with a lower-body injury.
Why Neal Pionk's absence will be felt on the ice
This season, Fleury has zero points in 17 games, Pionk has eight points in 40 games, and Miller has one assist in 15 games. Pionk leads the Jets' defense in ice time, averaging 22:47 per game, with Fleury at 13:55 and Miller at 13:45.
Forward Morgan Barron returned to a regular jersey at Wednesday's practice after missing several games with an upper-body injury. Barron has 14 points in 36 games this season and has been out since Jan. 8.
Winnipeg enters Wednesday's play dead last in the Central Division with an 18-22-5 record, totaling 41 points in 45 games, but is riding a three-game win streak.
