A lot of controversy erupted in last night's Jets-Blues game, and one moment had Winnipeg scoring a goal that didn't count, and Scott Arniel explained why. Was it a goal or wasn't it? That's the question hanging over a potential turning point in Game 3 between the Jets and Blues in St. Louis on Thursday. Midway through the second period, with the Jets trailing 3-0, Kyle Connor set up a play for Cole Perfetti, where he fired a quick wrister from in front of the net.
It appeared that Binnington's glove was behind the red goal line
Blues goalie Jordan Binnington made a spectacular glove stop, with his glove well past the goal line. Perfetti pointed out a goal. The referee did not. Play was stopped for a lengthy video review, as officials searched for distinct evidence to reverse the no-goal call. Jets head coach Scott Arniel subsequently said he witnessed two or three views that made it seem like the puck had gone over the line. But without conclusive evidence, the original call stood. There was no clear-cut picture that showed the puck was over the red line, Scott Arniel said. It looked like it. There's lots of things that made it look like it was. But there was no perfect evidence that it was 100 per cent over the line. And obviously the call on the ice was no goal. But there was never any video where it actually showed the goal line and the puck being over. There was nothing, whether it was his glove, bits and pieces of his glove was in the way, or whatever it was. Usually when it isn't called a goal you've got to be 100 percent to overturn it.

Loading from Twitter ...

The NHL's situation room subsequently clarified that there was no conclusive video evidence to overturn the on-ice ruling. Perfetti still has no playoff goals, and the momentum of the Jets was stalled. They had another power play just before the second period ended, but were unable to capitalize. Although they finally got one early in the third, St. Louis countered with three goals within a span of more than five minutes to seal an easy 7-2 victory. Winnipeg's series lead is trimmed to 2-1, with Game 4 on Sunday at noon CT.
