This afternoon Vancouver Canucks prospect Riley Patterson has been traded after failing to report to training camp in the OHL. Recent reports confirmed that Riley Patterson requested a trade away from the Barrie Colts in the OHL after spending the last two seasons with the team. At the time of the request, Patterson was reportedly willing to hold out and skip the beginning of the season awaiting a new opportunity. Just one day after that request made by Patterson he has been officially dealt to the Niagara IceDogs for the upcoming season.
Vancouver Canucks Prospect Traded To A New Team For 2025-26 Season
According to multiple sources including the Niagara IceDogs themselves Patterson has been traded for a package of draft picks.

Loading from Twitter ...

Loading from Twitter ...

After a successful draft year Patterson was selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the fourth round of the NHL Draft. In his draft plus one season, Patterson took a bit of a step back in production largely due to an underperforming team in Barrie. As a result, Patterson demanded a trade and will now join a talented up and coming Niagara IceDogs team led by draft eligible forward Ryan Roobroeck. Hopefully this change of scenery will allow for Patterson to get back on track and become the top prospect that the Canucks believe he can be. Only time will tell if this was the right move for Patterson, but now with the move behind him the talented forward can get back to training for the upcoming season and getting to know his new teammates in Niagara in pursuit of a Memorial Cup.
