As NHL free agency rolls along the Vancouver Canucks have been connected to talented sniper Victor Olofsson on the free agent market.

The Vancouver Canucks have had an active offseason so far trading for Evander Kane while also offloading prospect goalie Arturs Silovs.
When it comes to the free agency side of things, the Vancouver Canucks have been significantly less active failing to really sign anyone of note so far through the first few weeks.
This has led many fans to want more activity either through yet another trade or potentially a bargain signing of a player still remaining in free agency.
Tonight, the Canucks have been linked with former 20+ goal scorer Victor Olofsson of the formerly of the Vegas Golden Knights and Buffalo Sabres.

Canucks Linked To Victor Olofsson As A Potential Depth Scoring Upgrade

In a new piece from Canucks Army Stephan Roget took a look at a few names the Canucks could still target of the free agent market.
One of those names was Olofsson who Roget mentions is one of the most notable scoring forwards left on the market.
The only other forward UFA on the market who might be demanding anything approaching a high price is Olofsson, who has scored as many as 28 goals in a season as recently as 2022/23.

Olofsson during his time in Buffalo hit the 20 goal plateau multiple times mostly playing in a middle-six role.
He was then signed by the Vegas Golden Knights where he played bottom-six minutes with some power play time in which he amassed 15 goals and 29 points in 56 games.
While Roget believes the Canucks are keeping their options open he warns against signing Olofsson due to the team already having similar players with the same role.
By all accounts, Olofsson is quite literally just a shooter, capable of piling up goals, especially on the power play, but not able to contribute in many ways beyond that. He's fine enough as a PP mercenary on a deep forward roster like Vegas, but one really struggles to see what he'd add to a Canucks' roster that already has some big shooters like Brock Boeser and Evander Kane.

Signing Olofsson would also potentially block an opportunity for young prospects like Aatu Raty or Jonathan Lekkerimaki to earn full-time roles in Vancouver next season.
If the Canucks are going to make a significant upgrade this offseason it will likely have to come from the trade market once again as free agent options continue to dwindle down.
