Even after their franchise altering and monumental trade of captain and former Norris Trophy winner Quinn Hughes, the Vancouver Canucks' special teams have gotten better since last month.

In what was arguably the most consequential trade in team history, the Vancouver Canucks traded captain and former Norris Trophy winner Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild last month for Zeev Buium, Liam Ohgren, Marco Rossi and a first round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.
The Canucks then surprised by winning four straight games after the trade.
In other surprising news for the Canucks, their special teams both on the PP and PK have actually gotten better after bidding goodbye to the best defenseman in team history.
Per a report from Canucks broadcaster Brendan Batchelor, both Vancouver's power play and penalty kill have gotten better since the trade last month.
The Canucks special teams have both significantly improved since the Quinn Hughes trade.

Vancouver's PK is 3rd in the NHL since December 14th, and their PP is tied for 7th in that same span. - Brendan Batchelor

The Canucks Traded Quinn Hughes To The Wild Last Month

The Canucks now don't have a player wearing the captain's C on his sweater following the trade of Hughes, and they may not even be done making trades.
The Canucks, who have mostly struggled this year and are back in last place in the Pacific Division, have multiple players who have had their names involved in trade rumours, including Kiefer Sherwood, Conor Garland and Elias Pettersson.
Even despite the improved numbers on the PP and PK, the Canucks are back as one of the worst teams in the Western Conference, and big changes could soon be coming.
