Quinn Hughes Reveals What He Really Thought About Watching the Four Nations Tournament
Canucks and Team USA Quinn Hughes was unable to play at the 4 Nations due to injury, and he revealed that it's been very hard for him to watch this tournament.
The NHL has itself in a pickle with Quinn Hughes. The USA national team coach Mike Sullivan formally included Hughes as a fill-in Tuesday upon finding out that Charlie McAvoy would be sitting out Thursday's 4 Nations Face-Off title match in Boston.
However, Hughes remains in Vancouver with the Canucks, and he has now been ruled out of the tournament completely after not receiving medical clearance. Hughes was clearly disappointed about the whole situation.
"I really want to [play] and obviously it's been really hard to watch. It's been fun to watch, hard for me to watch."
By existing regulations, Team USA would only have been entitled to dress Hughes if they had suffered another injury or illness.
Hughes was originally on Team USA but withdrew due to injuries
Hughes was originally chosen for the team but withdrew due to health issues, preferring to remain in Vancouver and focus on the NHL season.
"I gotta thank Bill Guerin for how patient he was with me, not only 10 days ago but even last night and the last 24 hours," Hughes added.
"He understood how much I wanted to play and also what my obligations were to the Canucks. Really, what it came down to, I just wasn't healthy enough where I wasn't sure that I could get worse and I felt like I couldn't be crawling back to Vancouver at the end of that tournament where now I'm missing more Canucks games."

Sullivan said that the team was weighing its choices and would have dearly loved Hughes to wear the team colors against Canada if at all possible.
However, seeing as that dream is now over, the team decided to bring in Tage Thompson and Brett Pesce as standby players in the event of any injuries or illness.
