NHL free agency is on the horizon and insider Rick Dhaliwal has given an update on contract negotiations with a pair of Vancouver Canucks forwards. After reportedly losing out on one of their top free agent targets just before the market opens the Vancouver Canucks have now pivoted their plan. The Canucks were expected to be active in free agency and on the trade market over the next several weeks. However, over the last couple of days several of the Canucks prime targets they were hoping to add have come off the market after either re-signing or being traded elsewhere. This has now caused an organizational shift in the way the Canucks are planning to approach the offseason according to reports. As a result, Rick Dhaliwal has revealed that the Canucks are circling back with their own players about potential long term extensions.
Vancouver Canucks Make A Major Push To Re-Sign A Pair Of Forwards
Over the last 24 hours Dhaliwal's sources have indicated that the Canucks are going to make another aggressive run at re-signing Pius Suter before the market opens on July 1st.

Loading from Twitter ...

This move likely comes as a result of multiple centers coming off of the board that the Canucks were high on and hoping to sign. In addition to the negations with Suter, the Canucks are also pushing to get Conor Garland re-signed as he heads into the final season of his contract.

Loading from Twitter ...

These priorities from Patrik Allvin and Jim Rutherford seem to indicate they will not be as aggressive in free agency as they maybe once thought. Now, with the left over salary cap space unused on free agents, the Canucks will instead look to bring back players that they know fit well in Vancouver.
