Five new teams linked to Elias Pettersson in potential blockbuster deadline deal

Nothing is going right lately for the Vancouver Canucks, who have sunk to rock bottom in both the Western Conference and the Pacific division standings thanks to multiple prolonged losing streaks.

They were already forced to trade away captain and former Norris Trophy winning defenseman Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild, and they are likely not finished making moves just yet.

There are multiple players who are reportedly on the verge of being moved, including Kiefer Sherwood, Conor Garland and Jake DeBrusk.

Another Canucks player in trade rumours is Elias Pettersson, despite his massive contract. Per a new report from NHL analyst David Pagnotta, there are at least five teams that are potentially interested in acquiring Pettersson, and he lists them as the Los Angeles Kings, Chicago Blackhawks, Utah Mammoth, Ottawa Senators and Carolina Hurricanes.

This year's NHL trade deadline is March 6.

The Canucks envisioned Pettersson as a major foundational building block piece when they signed him to a massive eight year contract with an AAV (average annual value) of $11,600,000.

He's still under contract through 2032, and the Canucks would most likely have to retain a percentage of that salary in order to make a trade work.

So far this year, Pettersson has 39 points (13G, 16A) in 39 games.
