Elias Pettersson trade talk just got real, and the Vancouver Canucks feel stuck.
On Friday's 32 Thoughts, Elliotte Friedman didn't sound convinced Pettersson would waive his no-movement clause.
That matters because this isn't a partial list, it's full control.
Pettersson's deal carries an $11.6 million cap hit, and it includes an NMC right now.
So if Vancouver wants a reset, the first step is getting the player to agree.
And that's where Friedman's point hits hardest, you have to give him a reason.
The Canucks are 17-28-5, and the season has been a grind.
They finally snapped an 11-game losing streak Wednesday with a 4-3 win over Washington.
That win helps the room breathe, but it doesn't erase months of noise.
Pettersson's own line is the uncomfortable part, just 0-1-1 in his last 13 games played.
If you're trying to sell him on staying, the pitch can't be "be patient."
If you're trying to sell him on leaving, the pitch can't be "save us."
Elias Pettersson and the Vancouver Canucks need a direction
Honestly, Canucks fans sound tired more than angry right now, like they want one clear plan.
If Vancouver is serious, it has to show Pettersson a hockey reason, not just a market.
That could be a firm coaching vision, a true top-six partner, or a blue line that moves pucks clean.
Otherwise, why would he lift the protection he fought to get?
Next up is New Jersey on Friday, and every quiet Pettersson game makes the conversation louder.
