The Vancouver Canucks and newly-minted GM Ryan Johnson are evaluating their prospect pool. Danila Klimovich just became the center of a massive social media storm.
The hockey media moves fast, but player agents move faster. Dan Milstein stepped in this weekend to protect his client from baseless reports.
Pro Hockey Rumors dropped a surprise on Saturday afternoon.
The outlet claimed the 23-year-old winger was bailing on North America. They reported a looming two-year contract with CSKA Moscow.
Milstein squashed the speculation immediately on X.
The prominent agent quote-tweeted the article with a simple, direct public statement:
"Fake news..."
The young forward just wrapped up his initial entry-level deal.
Vancouver still controls his NHL rights and can tender a qualifying offer next month.
Speculation naturally breeds when a high draft pick spends five seasons in the minors.
His development path has seen massive peaks and frustrating valleys.
He notched 25 goals and 13 assists in 65 games during the 2024-25 AHL campaign.
This season, he followed that up with 18 goals and 16 helpers across 67 outings.
Despite solid execution at the minor league level, a call-up never materialized.
Klimovich's NHL dreams aren't over, but the window is closing
Management wants to see his offensive output match the NHL pace.
A successful transition game requires crisp passing and a commitment to a 200-foot structure.
Bolting for Russia might sound appealing to a frustrated prospect stuck below the Show.
But Milstein effectively shut the door on that narrative before it gained real traction.
The Canucks desperately need internal options on cheap bridge deals.
Expect the winger to ink a short-term contract soon. He will report to training camp in September, fighting to prove he belongs in the opening night lineup.
