The Vancouver Canucks traded forward Kiefer Sherwood to the divisional foe San Jose Sharks today, and now GM Patrik Allvin is explaining why the move was made.

Earlier today, the Vancouver Canucks made the first of what could be several moves in the coming weeks before the March 6 trade deadline.
Forward Kiefer Sherwood, one of many Canucks forwards who was heavily involved in trade rumours, was traded to the divisional foe San Jose Sharks. Vancouver got defenseman Cole Clayton and two second-round picks in return.
Sherwood joins a Sharks team making a serious push to get back to the playoffs for the first time since 2019.
Not long after the trade was made official, Canucks GM Patrik Allvin spoke out about the move and said it was a difficult one to make.
Tough one. Kiefer Sherwood has been a great addition here to our team for two years. We brought him in when he was in Nashville, and I told him that coming here, we would definitely give him the resources to work on his game, and we believed in him as a player, and I think he's taken tremendous steps here over the years. Well-liked player on the ice, well-liked person in the community, and he's going to be missed. -Patrik Allvin
Before the trade, Sherwood had 23 points (17G, 6A) in 44 games.

Kiefer Sherwood Thanked The Canucks On His Way Out

On his way out, Sherwood was sure to thank the organization.
I'm really thankful for everything that the city and this organization have given me. I know they say you earn it, but you've got to have the opportunity. And you know, as a guy who has been a late bloomer, [this is] everything I could have hoped for, and more, and this is really a special place to play. - Kiefer Sherwood

Sherwood was never drafted into the NHL and has played for the Anaheim Ducks, Colorado Avalanche, Nashville Predators and Canucks.
In 309 career NHL games, he has 121 points (60G, 61A).
