Thatcher Demko hip surgery ends his 2025-26 season, and the Vancouver Canucks crease just turned into pure stress.

GM Patrik Allvin confirmed Tuesday that Demko will not play again this year.
The plan is hip surgery next week, then rehab aimed at being ready for training camp in September.
Allvin also stressed the injury is unrelated to the one that wrecked Demko's availability last season.
Demko last suited up Saturday, January 10 against the Toronto Maple Leafs, and that feels like a lifetime ago now.
Puck Report posted the full Allvin quote that spells out the shutdown and the September target.
"After consulting with our team doctors and outside specialists, Thatcher Demko will be shut down for the rest of the year.

He will undergo surgery next week for an injury unrelated to the one that kept him out of action last season. Following his rehab, he will be ready for the start of training camp in September."

Thatcher Demko leaves Vancouver Canucks chasing answers

Canucks fans have heard "next update" too many times, so this one lands like a punch even if it finally brings clarity.
On the ice, Vancouver loses its best chance to steal points on nights the lineup is thin.
Without him, Vancouver has to tighten the slot, win rebounds, and stop asking the goalie to mask every breakdown.
Demko's 2025-26 line sits at 8-10-0 with a 2.90 goals-against average, a .897 save percentage, and one shutout in 20 appearances.
Vancouver's net now leans on Kevin Lankinen and whoever backs him up, and every soft goal will feel louder.
Cap-wise, Demko's $8.5 million cap hit is locked in, so the front office will be watching the LTIR math closely.
The Canucks are 17-30-5, and they are staring at Tuesday night versus the San Jose Sharks needing clean structure in front of the net.
If Demko truly hits September at full speed, this becomes a horrible lost year, not a career curveball.
Until then, the save of the season has to come from the group, not the guy between the pipes.
