The Vancouver Canucks, who have already announced that Thatcher Demko is done for the year, have announced that Zeev Buium may need surgery.
The Vancouver Canucks have already been through plenty this year, which has included the painful trade of captain and former Norris Trophy winner Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild, followed by the trade of Kiefer Sherwood to the divisional foe San Jose Sharks.
They just announced today that goaltender Thatcher Demko, who has developed a reputation for being injury prone, will be shut down for the rest of the year with yet another injury. They also lost Brock Boeser to an injury after an illegal hit from Pittsburgh Penguins' forward Bryan Rust, who has since been suspended for three games.
And now, they may soon be without the principal return piece of the Hughes trade, Zeev Buium. Buium blocked a shot from Tommy Novak and suffered a fractured his cheekbone.
Per the latest from head coach Adam Foote, Buium may need surgery.
I know it's not the orbital bone where he does have a fracture in probably his high cheekbone. The doctors don't think it's surgery, but he's gonna get a second opinion in the next couple days. -Adam Foote
Zeev Buium Was Acquired By The Canucks From The Wild In The Quinn Hughes Trade
Buium, who was taken with the 12th overall pick by the Wild in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, was acquired by the Canucks in December as part of the package for Quinn Hughes.
The Canucks also got Marco Rossi, Liam Ohgren, and a first round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.
He has four points (2G, 2A) in 19 games since being acquired by the Canucks.
