Bad News For Quinn Hughes ahead Of Tonight's Canucks Game, Per Rick Tocchet
Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet has updated the status of captain Quinn Hughes for tonight's game, which was later revealed by Elliotte Friedman.
Dealing with an undisclosed injury, Quinn Hughes was on the ice Tuesday morning prior to the Canucks' practice but left before his teammates took to the ice.
He missed Sunday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Detroit Red Wings and was in jeopardy of missing a second straight game.
Quinn Hughes will unfortunately not play tonight
Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet confirmed ahead of Tuesday's game against the Colorado Avalanche that Hughes won't dress.
The 25-year-old captain and reigning Norris Trophy winner leads all NHL defencemen in scoring this season with 14 goals and 45 assists in 47 games.
He's also Vancouver's top point producer, riding an eight-game point streak with five goals and seven assists in that span.
This might throw doubt into question his availability for the forthcoming 4 Nations Face-Off tournament, for which he was due to represent the U.S. alongside his brother, Jack Hughes of the New Jersey Devils. He could be in doubt for that if this injury persists.
Thatcher Demko starts in goal
In other lineup news, Thatcher Demko will get the start in net against Colorado, while defenceman Carson Soucy, who was a healthy scratch against Detroit, may return to action.
Additionally, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported Tuesday that the Canucks have made Soucy available for trade, as he's being pushed out of the lineup due to the team's recent defensive acquisitions.
"I think they've let people know he'd be available," said Friedman. "They're just remodelling their D right now."
The Canucks and Avalanche face off at 7 p.m. PT / 10 p.m. ET.
