The Toronto Maple Leafs held their players exit interviews today after being eliminated in the first round by the Boston Bruins. Throughout it all though, Mitch Marner and William Nylander are taking a lot of blame for the series loss.

Fans are focused on the final goal of the series. David Pastrnak's OT winner in game seven. Both Mitch Marner and William Nylander were on the ice for the goal. Both players did not appear to care particularly much. Nylander can be seen coasting in his own zone, slowly turning around after Pastrnak enters the zone, with one hand on his stick. He made no effort to impede the play at all.

I honestly can't believe this is real William Nylander. No way he cares this little.

He scored the last 3 goals of the Maple Leafs season and he is not the problem but this is a horrific effort for someone that missed the first 3 games.

Mitch Marner however, is getting even more blame. Marner was much closer to Pastrnak throughout the play as that was his man. However, he gave little effort on the play as well, allowing the Bruins top goal scorer to get past him with a burst of speed. At that point it was already too late to do anything about it and Marner clearly gave up on the play.

Mitch Marner is getting roasted for being a spectator on Pasternak's series-winning goal - and rightly so - but Morgan Rielly was just as laissez-faire. So sof', doze guy.

Marner then got himself in more trouble today during his exit interview. He compared Leafs players to gods, immediately drawing heavy criticism from the fanbase.

«It means the world. Obviously we're looked upon asyou know, kind of gods here to be honest.»

Mitch Marner on what it means to be a Leaf.

This comment is a perfect example of why Mitch Marner will never be a meaningful piece of a cup winning team.

Views himself as a god.

Good grief.

Mitch Marner has long been a controversial player within the Leafs fanbase. He is obviously very important to the team's success, but he often appears disinterested when he's on the ice, even in critical moments. Given that he only has one year left on his contract, this has lead many fans to believe that he could be traded in the offseason.
